Running Prairie Paths and Badlands on the Maah Daah Hey

If you've never visited the vast expanse of the American Prairie or experienced the power of the Badlands, you'll be amazed by the variety and appeal of North Dakota's Maah Daah Hey Trail.  Here, on the Maah Daah Hey, you will run in the footsteps of Sioux Indian Chief Sitting Bull (who's wild mustang herds, direct descendents of his own mustangs, are still found along the Maah Daah Hey Trail).  This is wild country particularly suited for backcountry running adventures.  Often called the Serengeti of the Great Plains, you might see bison, elk, bighorn sheep, wild horses, pronghorn antelope, coyote, and wild turkey along the trail.  The Maah Daah Hey Trail offers great singletrack running among the buttes and rolling prairie.  Before you think this is just a flat prairie trail, take a closer look and you'll find rugged buttes, badlands and scenic vistas abound.  The variety of terrain will add interest and challenge to our adventure.  And, you'll be amazed by the starry night skies around the campfire in the evening.  This is a unique trail running adventure you won't want to miss!

Running High Above Lake Tahoe!

The 165 mile Tahoe Rim Trail circles one of the most beautiful lakes in the world - Lake Tahoe.  It winds through Aspen meadows, skirts high mountain peaks and runs for miles along ridgetops with stunning views.  On this Tahoe Rim tour we explore the eminently beautiful Northeast and East side of the trail with tremendous panoramic views, Mt. Rose, Marlette Lake, and spectacular boulders and rock outcroppings.  Some of the most stunning views from the Tahoe Rim trail can be found on this section.  We'll stay in comfortable summer homes and condominiums along the way with shuttle transport to and from the trailhead each day.  On an Adventure Running Co. tour we get somewhere.  We run segment by segment and cover an entire portion of the trail from point-to-point, we don't just run disconnected trails each day.  The trail is well developed and very runnable in most sections.  In fact, much of the segment of the Tahoe Rim Trail we run, is some of the most fun trail running you'll experience anywhere!  You won't soon forget the beautiful blue lake you'll run high above on this tour

"Our Lake Tahoe trip turned out to be just what we were looking for. Great trails, wonderful scenery, terrific guides, comfortable and convenient lodging, ample and tasty food, and fine companionship.  I will certainly be booking future trips with Adventure Running!"

Running Yosemite’s most spectacular routes

Yosemite National Park and Yosemite Valley present some of the most magnificent terrain on the planet.  Our tour navigates the most spectacular trails through this remarkable landscape.  As the first federal land to be set aside for any kind of park in 1864 (Yellowstone is known to be the first national park, set aside in 1872), Yosemite is well known for it’s sheer cliffs, waterfalls, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias and vast wilderness areas.  It is one of the most famous scenic areas in the world.  On our tour, we leave the crowds behind to explore some of the most famous sights in the park and some of the lesser known nooks and crannies that are just as wondrous.  From North Dome and El Capitan to Taft and Glacier Point, we take in all of this beauty while traversing the landscape on two feet in trail running shoes.   During the tour, you'll camp in lovely campsites, soak your tired legs and feet in the cool waters of the Merced and Tuolumne Rivers and enjoy tasty dinners with new running friends around a campfire.  Join us for this spectacular tour through the wonder that is Yosemite National Park!

"Andy and Kim (and their whole family) are some of the coolest people I've ever met. They immediately make you feel at home and ready for a fun, challenging running adventure regardless of your skill level. I can't imagine a better group to undertake such an endeavor. The course was divided into the perfect amount of days, our accommodations were very comfy and unique with delicious food, and the logistics were ironed out seamlessly without being inflexible. Can't wait to adventure with them again!"

Running around Mont Blanc through three countries!

The Tour du Mont Blanc is one of the most famous and spectacular long trails in the world.  On this tour we tackle the entire route around Mont Blanc, staying in comfortable Inns and Refugios along the way.  We'll begin our adventure in the world famous resort town of Chamonix - the region where trail running and just about every other outdoor adventure sport originated.  We'll start with a gondola ascent to Le Brevent and trek around Mt. Blanc in a counter-clockwise direction finishing where we started with a gondola ride back down to finish the tour.  As with all of our running tours, we will truly embrace the trail and the area we're running through.  This means we'll be staying in nice, traditional and historic inns along the way, with two nights in the Refugios that are famous in Europe and along the Mont Blanc Trail.  We'll truly immerse ourselves in the culture of the trail with our stays in the Refugios, sleeping alongside our trail companions!  We'll stay in comfortable hotels in Chamonix and Courmayer and in between we'll be in rustic, historic and comfortable Inns and Hotels that will give us a real feel for the countryside we're running through.  This tour will be one of the most spectacular we've embarked on, and we believe once you've run the Tour du Mont Blanc, you'll feel the same way!

Duration/Mileage:  7 days / 7 nights / 106 miles

Difficulty:  Advanced - While this isn't our most difficult tour, it will be a significant challenge.  The Tour du Mont Blanc includes significant elevation change, very rugged trails, very long climbs and descents, high elevation, navigation challenges, no access to support vehicle, and potential hazardous weather.  Be prepared to depart early on our longest days.  We will be running 7 days with distances between 10 and 19 miles.

The greatest outdoor/running/hiking experience you'll ever have! I have taken several trips organized by Kim and Andy and each one somehow manages to top the previous one. The trips are well chosen, thoroughly prepared in all aspects (trail choice and info, logistics, food and lodging).  Kim and Andy are the nicest people you'll meet, and everyone feels comfortable, whether a top notch trail runner or a middling back of the pack sort like me.

"The Epic Wonderland Trail Tour was so amazing. The scenery was none like I'd ever seen - such breathtaking views everywhere. The guides were wonderful!  They were very in tune with our needs and wants, and we were fed very well!"

Wonderland Trail Epic  Adventure Run

Picture
Yes, this run truly is Epic!   Every year, our runners find out just how stunning, challenging and even daunting the Wonderland Trail can be.  This epic tour is the most Advanced tour we offer with two very long days and big climbs and descents on our first two days on the Wonderland Trail.   The first day on the Wonderland Trail (2nd day of the tour) totals 34 miles with six long climbs and descents.  Elevation gain on the first day of the Wonderland Trail is over 10,000 feet.  Day 2 covers 26 miles with a couple really long ascents totaling nearly 8,000 feet.  Each day on the Wonderland gets progressively easier and when you complete the circumnavigation, the sense of accomplishment will be real.

The 93 mile Wonderland Trail, which circumnavigates 14,411 foot Mt. Rainier in Mt. Rainier National Park, is one of the world's most dramatic and scenic trails.  On this amazing adventure, we'll run the entire Wonderland Trail, all the way around Mt. Rainier, over the course of 4 days.  On our first day in the park we will take a leisurely run on the scenic  Skyline Trail and then settle into our campsite to get prepared for our first day on the Wonderland Trail.

As you travel around the big mountain, you'll have the opportunity see its many unique and varied faces.  You'll pass through several different life zones in the park including inland rainforests and subalpine meadows filled with wild flowers.  The glaciers you'll see high above you create numerous rugged river crossings, two of which include suspension bridges to cross.  And, while rain is always a possibility in the Pacific Northwest, we're planning our tour during the "dry" season.  The opportunity to see each unique side of mighty Mt. Rainier over the course of 4 days is truly stunning!  Running the Wonderland Trail will be an epic adventure you won't soon forget!

"My Wonderland Trail journey with the Adventure Running Company was a trip of a lifetime! The scenery was gorgeous, the trails were challenging, the food was delicious, the crew was phenomenal, and my trail companions were awesome. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves a great trail adventure!"

Duration/Mileage:  5 days / 100 miles
Difficulty:  Advanced - This is THE most advanced tour we offer.  Trail runners with the right attitude, good fitness and no problems with long days on the trail will do just fine. Moderate altitude, two very long days - one over 30 miles and one 26 miles and both with significant elevation change, rugged trails, long climbs and descents, no access to support vehicle, distracted by beauty of trail.  The first day on the Wonderland Trail we will get an early start and runners will be required to carry flashlights.  You will have a long, glorious day, but we will have a nice warm, tasty meal waiting for you when you come in.  Slower runners may come in after dark on our longest day - be prepared.

"Adventure Running Co. offered me everything I could've wanted in a trail running adventure. They planned out the route and took care of all logistics, so that I just had to show up and run. The Wonderland Trail was beautiful and challenging to run, and I never would've run it on my own without their support. Both their guidance on the trail and their hosting/cooking at the campsites were top-notch."

Running the Farthest Edge of the North American Continent on the East Coast Trail

The East Coast Trail is a trail so grand that you'll have the chance to look down on the backs of whales from high upon a cliff and see giant icebergs float by on the ocean current.  It's a trail unknown to many, but perhaps one of the finest on the North American continent.  It's a trail with a "European" feel that's actually closer to Great Britain than it is to Vancouver.  The East Coast Trail stretches over 200 miles along the Eastern edge of the island province of Newfoundland in Canada.  Relatively short road walks in quaint coastal villages connect the various segments of trail, and we hand pick the very best segments for this trip, connecting long point-to-point stretches.  The East Coast Trail, the most easterly long distance trail on the continent,  links charming fishing villages with the historic yet cosmopolitan capital city of St. John's.

The landscape of the East Coast Trail is stunning, with wide-open coastal barrens that provide endless views, high fjord-like cliffs dropping precipitously into the ocean below, sea stacks and arches, wild beaches and coves, waterfalls and powerful waves and even a geyser-like blowhole along the rocky shoreline called "The Spout".  While the trail is generally well-marked, it is a challenging and sometimes technical route along the coastline.  You'll find steep climbs and descents, slippery rocks and roots and sometimes boulders and rocks to clamber through.

Along with the scenic natural wonders along the trail, you'll enjoy charming coastal fishing villages each with their own unique character, from the colorful cottages of Quidi Vidi to one of the many active fishing villages like Petty Harbor.  We'll spend our evenings in local Bed and Breakfasts along the coast, enjoying homemade dinners with a hearty breakfast each morning.  Each B&B along the way brings it's own local charm and simplicity.  We'll also spend a couple of nights in St. John's, The City of Legends, enjoying evenings out on the town and sampling native Newfoundland cuisine - Cod tongue anyone?  Join us along the East Coast Trail for what is sure to be one of the most memorable trips you've ever taken!

Duration/Mileage:  7 days / 7 nights / 100 miles

Running the Red Rock Country between Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks

The southwestern corner of Utah offers some of the most fascinating and awe-inspiring landscapes in the desert Southwest.  Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks are the bookends for our exploration of the red rock country connecting these two popular national parks.  We’ll run and explore trails through towering cliffs and slickrock canyons, with colorful spires and natural arches that will inspire you and leave you breathless, seeking what lies around the next corner.  Our trails will take us past immense spires and redrock walls, through cedar, spruce and bristlecone pine forests and up to ridges with views you won’t forget.  We’ll run smooth singletrack high above Zion National Park with views that will leave you speechless.  The flowing, smooth singletrack trails and downhills of the Red Canyon country around Bryce Canyon National Park are perfect for trail running and will make you almost want to climb back up so you can run back down again (almost!).  In the evening we’ll retire to comfortable lodging facilities where dinner will be served and stories will be told.  Join us in November for this memorable trail running tour through country you won’t soon forget.  This tour was very popular last year and we plan to add a second tour date when this tour date fills.
