Exploring the Fisherman's Trail along the Atlantic Coast
Portugal's Rota Vicentina or Fisherman's Trail, so named because it follows trails used by locals to get to the beaches and the best fishing spots, comprises a total of 141 miles of splendid singletrack along cliffs and secluded beaches. If you love dramatic scenery with secluded sandy bays, sea stacks and cliffs, appreciate fresh fish and charming guesthouses and hostels with mouthwatering traditional Portugese cuisine, then the Fisherman's Trail is for you! It's quite possible this adventure may become one of your all-time favorites! It's still relatively unknown, but as you'll soon find out, it's perfect for trail runners and adventurers alike.
The Fisherman's Trail traverses the wild southwesternmost shore of the Atlantic Coast of Portugal, the last bit of land Portugese explorers saw as they sailed out into the "great unknown". These explorers left behind lovely white-blue painted villages that we'll explore each day along the trail. This tour offers a perfect balance of physical challenge and cultural immersion, as you traverse breathtaking landscapes steeped in history and natural wonder. This tour promises awe-inspiring views, meaningful encounters, and memories to last a lifetime.

Trip Details
Duration/Mileage: 7 days / 105 miles
Difficulty: Intermediate - This tour includes some rugged and steep trail, many climbs and descents, some soft sand, a couple of 20+ mile days, often windy conditions, some challenging trail navigation in places but overall the route is well marked with lots of waymarks and signposts, no access to support vehicle, clifftops could induce acrophobia in places, language barrier, access to refreshments in local villages we pass through. "Adventure Running provided access to a unique trail in a unique environment. They did it with enthusiasm, graciously and with good provisions. Wonderful hosts who cared about and provided well for their guests."
